I've just returned from the 2006 NSS convention in Bellingham and while there I decided the time had come to implement this blog that I had had in mind for some time. There are issues out there that need discussion and ideas that need cross fertilization.
Speleothus is a pseudonymn that I used starting the the 60's to write songs and articles, and this blog can be considered a continuation of those early days before I joined the "establishment" and had a forum for my writings that allowed me to use my own name. Although I'm not exactly anonymous, I probably won't make a big thing of who I am now. But I will probably have guest bloggers and certainly won't hide myself if anyone asks.
In theory this post is supposed to come under the new author's name I have just signed up for, but in fact it may well come under another name that I set up for a different blog. We'll see what we get.
The purpose and goals of this blog will become clear as time goes on. Sufficeth it to say right now that I will be discussing cave conservation and management, speleopolitics, and a variety of other issues that are included on the category list, if it shows up.
Also, I will be dinking with the design of the blog as things progress, until I get something I like.
Anyway, it's time to publish this test blog and see what happens.
